ON 1ST OCTOBER 2006.
The new Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2006 (RRO) has now replaced and rationalises previous fire safety legislation.
Under this Order, an employer and anyone who is in control of any non-domestic premises, has a duty to provide adequate general fire precautions, including minimising the risk of fire. The Order also requires adequate means of escape, and adequate staff training to be provided. There is also a duty to undertake a fire risk assessment of the premises, in order to identify how fire risk can be minimised and the necessary precautions to safeguard all people who may be affected by a fire on the premises.
